Valleywag has been reporting in several pieces (click through the hyperlinks in this article to find the others) that the CEO of the online escort service, The Escort Review has been jailed for extorting sex from the prostitutes on his site in order to exchange removing unflattering reviews of the women by their clients.
Here is an older NYT article describing the new call girl who, because of sites like The Escort Review can forego working for a pimp. It seems that sites like TER basically help clients find sex workers without sex workers working a street corner or in a known brothel.
