Wall-E Estimates

My prediction of a 50% decline in second week revenues is a little high. Early estimates (in a few days, we'll know more) say it may be more around 47%. I just realized that Friday was the 4th of July, too, which would seem to push movie revenues up for the weekend, so probably Wall-E benefits from that. But so far, so good, for Wall-E.

Hancock also appears to have made over $100 million this opening weekend, which puts Will Smith into the hot hands territory. I think this is his 8th consecutive movie to do that.

Update: Hmmm. Tyler posts a 61% decline for Wall-E, but as I noted above, boxofficemojo.com and The-Numbers.Com both show a 47% decline. He also said fourth of July was a tough weekend, but I thought holidays tended to be strong revenue for exhibitors. After all, no one is working on Friday the fourth, so we'd expect matinees to be strong, but probably not evening sales as much. Regardless, I wonder where he is getting that estimate? Already, Wall-E is two-thirds of the way home to break-even at $180 million, and I won't be surprised to learn on Tuesday that the weekend grosses were even higher than estimated. Looks like Wall-E may fare respectable, even if probably not at the level of a Finding Nemo or Toy Story, which is kind of amazing given what I'm hearing about the movie.
