1. Obama's second thoughts are making things difficult. The race to the middle on the war is not as easy when your historical approach has been so principled and rigid.

4. NYT says Starbuck's mistakes began when it deviated from its fine honed real estate calculations and began to open stores in marginal locations.
5. If you saw the Cartoon Network series, then you may like me be entirely hopeful about the new one this fall. Surely he can't screw it up again can he?
6. The Baby Boomers are retiring from academia, and with them they take some part of their 60s revolution. Academia is going to be changing over the next twenty years since the big mouse in the python's stomach (the baby boomers) will have passed through, which should trigger a wave of hirings. But, with American families having grown smaller, the demand for education may too be smaller. But with incomes rising, it will increase demand. It's anyone's guess as to what the net effect will be.

8. I may have to eat some crow over this, but putting red wine on ice is apparently not the worst thing in the world. My wife will surely delight to rub this in my face.
