Innocent Bystander (2004 Shiraz/Viognier)

Tonight, the pretty young lady I live with and I drank a bottle of Innocent Bystander 2004. It's 97% Shiraz, 3% Viognier. Viognier is normally white, I think, and Spanish (I also think). It is sometimes said to be "spicey". I found this bottle at the local wineshop, because it had a reduced price from $21 to $14-15, plus it had a Wine Spectator score of 89. It's got a very fruity bouquet - the first wine I've had in a while where the alcohol didn't overwhelm the flavors in the wine (on the nose, I mean). I think I read that it had a lot of berries - blackberries, in particular - and I can definitely see that. The taste was very smooth - for a shiraz, especially, it was light and extremely fruity, but not sweet at all. I told the girl I'm seeing that I actually thought I tasted a plant - not so much fruit only, but something organic, dirty-like. Really interesting, I thought, and personally, I felt like it was worth the $14-15 we paid for it. You can get a case for around $180, and I'm considering it. I'm not sure how I'd pair this wine, though. The attractive woman on the couch behind me said with pork. We had it with pizza, and I liked that a lot. Nothing too heavy, probably, as it is, like I said, a milder, fruitier wine. But I think you'll enjoy it. The vineyard is from Victoria, Australia and has gotten good reviews elsewhere.
